WHERE WE WORK
Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that the land on which we work and recreate lies within the ancestral and contemporary homelands of the Dakota and Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) peoples. These lands, now part of the Superior National Forest, have been home to Indigenous peoples for thousands of years and hold deep cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance.
We honor the sovereign tribal nations who have lived on and cared for this land for centuries and continue to do so today, including the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa (Zagaakwaandagowininiwag), the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Nagaajiwanaang), and the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Gichi Onigaming). We also acknowledge the Dakota people, whose historical presence and connection to this land remain an integral part of its history.
As an organization dedicated to stewardship and conservation, we recognize the profound and enduring relationship between Indigenous peoples and this land. We strive to be respectful caretakers and to deepen our understanding of this place through meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities. We are committed to learning from their knowledge and traditions and to honoring their stewardship through our work.
